On January 30,
2010 the Iago Junior High students competed
in the District 29-AA UIL contest. The
students and faculty have been preparing for
this competition since early November.
The hard work has paid off as Iago took
first place in both the Sixth Grade division
and the Seventh and Eighth Grade division.
The
writing events were held on January 6, 2010 under the
direction of Brenda Humberson. She served as the
coach for both Ready Writing and Editorial Writing.
In 6th
grade Ready Writing, Harold Taylor took 6th
place. In 8th grade Ready Writing, Emily
Wilkins took 1st place, and Hannah Kulak took
3rd place. In 7th grade Editorial
Writing Gabby Alcala took 1st place, Emili
Storey took 2nd place, Tyler Wittig took 5th
place. In 8th grade Editorial Writing,
Spencer Gutierrez took 1st place, and Kristen
Hanka took 4th place.
All speech
events took place January 28, 2010, at the
Iago campus. These events include Oral
Reading, Modern Oratory, and Impromptu
Speaking.
Sara Harborth
sponsors the Oral Reading events. In 6th grade,
Melina Moore took 1st place, Kaylor Rolf took 3rd
place, and Harold Taylor took 4th place. In 7th
grade, Ellie Forgason took 1st place, Karli Seymour took
3rd place, and Peyton Metting took 6th place.
In 8th grade, Emily Wilkins took 1st place,
and Hannah Kulak took 5th place.
Sarah Harborth also sponsors Modern Oratory. Kirsten Miller took 1st
place, and Alvaro Beltran took 2nd place.
Ashly Macek sponsors Impromptu Speaking. Sheigh Thompson took 2nd
place, Kylie Vega took 3rd place, and Cynthia Kulak took
4th place.

Art Sponsor. In 6th grade, Claire Winkenwerder took
1st place, Sierra Ganske took 2nd
place, Maggie Merecka took 3rd place, Kate Cheney took 4th

grade, Jena Herndon took 1st place, and Kortlan Bell and
Elijah Krushall tied for 2nd place. In 8th
grade, Kyla Lockley took 1st place, Erin Torres took 2nd
place, and Megan Munoz and Jessica Taylor tied for 4th
